[PRKSS AGENCY.] Auckland, Friday. _ Mr J. Case was a passenger by the City of ISiew York. He comes to arrange the match between Trickett and Courtney, for £1000 a side.
Mr Binney reports ;— Flour, market much depressed, £15; Adelaide, £ IS; only small trade lots offering. Bran, £5 ss ; pollard, £5 10s; bags oatmeal, £19; oats,3s9d; potatoes, new, £4; cheese, 7d ; bacon and hams in cloth, &»d; maize, cargo from Fiji, realised 4s 9d.
Mr Buckland reports:— -Good steers, 26s to 27s per lOOlbs, falling 10s per head as sale proceeded; fat cows s 23s to 255; fat sheep fair supply, dull at 2£d ; fat lambs numerous, slightly lower, 6s to 12s.
Two men have been arrested on a charge of breaking into the Castle Hotel, and stealing £175.
The City of New York, with the English mails, floated the Health Officer's flag on entering the harbor this afternoon, an<f for some time was not communicated with. It was ascertained subsequently that the surmise that there was disease on board proved incorrect, all being well. New Zealand passengers—T. Gardner, Mr and Mrs J C Campbell, Air and Mrs Gothe, Barker (2) J. C Chaplain, 11. Case, Morris, Learns, C Kuudall, C. Hawlcon, Stephen, Massitt, and 15 steerage.
Saturday. The City of New York sailed early this morning for Sydney. Arrived— lron Queen, from London, after a five weather but protracted passage of 110 days.
Owiug to disputes on political and other matters amongst a section of Dr Wallis' congregation, three of them last night forcibly removed the harmonium placed in the church during Dr Wallis' absence at Wellington.
. Oam/lw, Friday, Owing to the Christmas holidays, very little is being done in the grain and breadstuffs market, which continues to exhibit a downward tendency, except as regards oats. Wheat 4s to 5s 2d; oats, as to 3s 6d; barley, none; flour, £14 to £14 10s, f.0.b. ; oatmeal, £17; pearl barley, per ton of 22401b5, £20; pollard, £5 10s ; bran, £3 10s. The skeleton of a man was found yesterday on the Maeratohena station. A mounted constable has been despatched to make enquiries.
Dunedin, Friday, At a meeting of the Dunedin shareholders in the Greymouth Coal company, a resolution was carried to the effect—" That this meeting disapproves that of selling 810 forfeited shares at 50s each ; at present the Directors ought not to be empowered to mortgage the assets, aud that the capital should be increased to the extent of 10s per ahare.
Port Chalmers, Saturday. Arrived -Brig Carl Ludwig, with a cargo of tea from Foochoo, via Yokohama ; also, ship Canterbury, from Glasgow, with immigrants. There is sickness on board.
