CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor ojt the « Evening Mail.' Sis, — So far as ray memory serves me (not being in possession of that ancient Nels6n Ezamintr, for many years the first and leading journal in New Zealand, to refer to, I am unable to state the axact year of the first Horticultural Meeting, then held under canvas in Trafalgar-street) twenty years have passed since our esteemed citizen, the Honorary Secretary, first originated the Horticultural Society, nor has he ever lost sight of its interests, though the seeds lay dormant for a while, and the grafts unattended to, but they have now come to life again. That thi3 annual show has so greatly increased in value and beauty is no doubt a great pleasure to him, and still more to those who hare been gratified by their visits, added to which we owe much to those who hare ao greatly improved it 3 attractions by their contributions. Without presuming in any way to recommend anything to the Horticultural Society, I suggest that a testimonial emblematic of the Society be subscribed for, and presented to the Honorary Secretary, to whom wa alao owe the present Institute, originated by him in 1851 or 1852, and of which he has been tho permanent President. — I am, &c, ' z.
