HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Wellington, Saturday. The House met at 230 this afternoon. The Foxton Reserves Bill was introduced by Mr Johustou. Bills read a second time— Mining Companies Act Amendment Bill, Gisborne Harbor and Waikato Harbor Endowment Bills. Bills read a third time— Roxburgh Reserves Amendment Bill, Southland Girls and Boys High Schools Bill, Duration of House of Representatives Bill. The Native Marriages Bill was referred to the Native Affairs Committee. Mr Fox, as a matter of privilege, drew attention to a report of speech made in Auckland by Dr Wallis, in which he said one-fourth of the members of the House were political trimmers and rogues. He made no motion on the subject. Mr Stout pointed out that the Auckland Star contradicted the report iv the Herald, from which Mr Fox had quoted. To discuss the subject he moved the adjournment of the House. On this a loug discussion ensued which gradually drifted into the debate on the Piako Swamp and Waitara land transactions. This lasted till near the dinner hour, when the motion for adjournment was negatived. In the course of the debate Mr Rees accepted Major Atkinson's challenge to criminally prosecute him and his late colleagues in respect of the Piako transaction, and Mr Stout undertook to repeat at his first public meeting the charges of improper conduct made against the late Ministers in regard to these land transactions, so that they might jutify themselves, if they could, in a court of law. Dr Wallis and his speech dropped quite out of sight. In reply to Mr Ormond, Sir G. Grey said the Government had not countermanded any prders for railway material from England, bufc had one for railway tickets. In the Legislative Council, on the motion of the Hon Mr Buckley a call of the Council was ordered for Tuesday next by a majority
