[PRESS AGKXCr.J Dcnedis, Monday. A tailor named Henry Martin in a state of drunkenness laid himself on the Ocean Beach railway line yesterday, wheu a train was approaching. One of his arms was fearfully hacked aud had to be amputated. The charge of incest mth his daughter against David Aitcheson has been remanded till Wednesday. Auckland, Saturday, The North Shore and Aucklaud crews competed to-day in outriggers for the silver cup presented by Mrs Tavares. Auckland won by one hundred lengths.

The total amount collected towards the Indian Famine Relief Fuud to this date is £1815. Monday. There was a great alarm of fire yesterday evening, and people rushed out of church, but only to discover that the fire was in a bush near Mr Buckland's honse on the Kyber Pass road. Mr Tavare's final performance was thinly attended, as the Aucklanders do nofc appreciate Shakespearian plays. De Lias takes a benefit to-night. Miss Betford's tobacconist shop iv Dixonstreet was burnt to the ground yesterday, nothing being saved. The detailed list of subscriptions in aid of the Indian Famine collected at Wellington and the Upper and Lower Hutt is published this morning. The total is' £1,777 3s 6d. The captain of the schooner Pelican, from Oamaru, was fined this morning in the Resident Magistrate's Court the sum of 20s and costs for overloading his vessel. Mr. M'Kellar, Collector of Customs, did not press for the full penalty as the. offence was the first one of the kind. It is said that the authorities were apprised by telegraph of the vessel being overloaded because immediately upon her arrival the harbor master went ou board and inspected the vessel and afterwards testified to her being overloaded. He was removed to the Hospital where he died two hours after. He leaves a wife aud ten children totally unprovided for. It appears that not long ago a house in the Rangitata district belonging to a man named M'Donald was burned down, and a farmer on returning home found his house broken into and articles of value gone. Other cases of robbery were also reported. Detective Neill dressed like a swagsman went and worked in the neighborhood some days, and eventually went to the house of a fanner named Sanford, where he found some of the missing articles. Sanford was arrested, and will be brought before the Geraldine Bench to-day on a charge of arson, house breaking, and robbery.
