d?he'Hawea sailed for Taranaki and Manukatfat nine o'clock last night. The Lady Darkly returned from her usual trip &>.. Golden. Bay last evening. The Claud Hamilton is at present laid up in Melbourne undergoing repairs. 'SW Charles Edward will leave for Greymouth direct to-morrow evening with immigrants ex .Waitara. The Wallace left Wanganui this morning, will arrive to-night, and sail to-morrow afternoon, for Blenheim with immigrants ex Waitafa.
The Kennedy will leave Greymouth tomorrow, arrive here on Sunday, and sail for Wellington on Monday evening. The Alhambra was advertised to leave Melbourne for New Zealand via Hobarton. The Bluff will be her first port of call in NewZealand.
The Ringarooma and the Taupo have been trying conclusions on two different occasions coming up the coast. On the trip between Port Chalmers and Lyttelton the Melbourne boat beat the New Zealand one by something like an hour and a half, and between Lytelton and Wellington by a still longer time. The Ringarooma on her last trip to Melbourne experienced exceptionally heavy weather, causing her to make a long passage, seven days having elapsed from the time of her leaving the Bluff until arriving alongside the Sandridge wharf. The gales met with are described as being very terriffic. -The : Union Company's s.s. Wellington, Captain M'Gee, came into harbor last evening at ten o'clock. She left Onehunga at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, and reached Taranaki the same night; waited till daylight, when ihe passengers and cargo were landed, and at 7 o'clock the steamer proceeded on to Kelson, arriving here as above. Fine weather was experienced throughout. The Wellington sailed for Picton, Wellington, and South shortly before ten this morning. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood & Co's fine as. Ringarooma, J. W. Clarke, commander, arrived in harbor last evening at ten o'clock. She left the Sandridge Railway Pier at 10.45 a.m. ou the 13th instaut, clearing Port Phillip Heads the same day, and Swan Istand the following morning. Bad weather was experienced for the first two days, after which the wind changed to the S.W., and continued to. blow in that direction until making the Bluff at 11 p.m. on the 17th. . Notwithstanding the weather the Ringarooma made some , good running, the log indicating 287 knots as the result of the first day's work. The run up the New Zealand coast was made rapidly, and the steamer reached Wellington on Wednesday morning. She left there at 11 a.m. yesterday, and immediately on getting into the Straits experienced a gale right fair in herteetu. Very little progress was made for a while, at 4 p.m. the steamer only being abreast of The Brothers, and as it was then seen that unless a little more exertion was made the steamer would lose the tide iu Nelson, the engines were lac out, aud with such good effect, that at half past six the French Pass was reached, when the engiues were eased to admit of her coming through easily, after which full steam was once more put on, and the Ringarooma arrived here in time to save the tide. Captain Clarke, late of the Claud Hamilton, is now in charge of this splendid steamer, Captain Whitburn having retired. The liingaroouoa sailed for Wellington, South, aud Melbourne, shortly after ten o'clock this morning;, and will probably reach Wellington by eight o'clock this evening.
