The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1877.

There was a large attendance again last night at the Horticultural Show, £15 being taken at the door during the day, making a total of £49 for the two days, in addition to members' tickets. For the success which has attended this and the previous Shows the thanks of the public are largely owing to Mr H. Adams, the Honorary Secretary, and also to the membera of the Committee for the trouble they have taken in making the necessary preparations. Owing to the serious illness of Mr Fell the Committee of the Harmonic Society have' decided to discontinue the Thursday night practices for two or three weeks. Due notice will be given of their renewal.

A highly interesting lecture on the life of Sic Walter Scott was delivered in the Wesleyaa Sunday School building last night by the Re? T. Russell to a large audience, whose attention never flagged throughout. At the close a collection was made in aid of the school building fund. A "lay session " will be delivered at the Loyal Marine Lodge to-night by Brother Mac Lean Dunn, who will take for hia text the words " Paddle your own canoe." A ckicket match played at Wakefield yesterday between the College and Wakefield Clubs terminated in an easy victory for the country team, who were the winners with seven wicketa to fall. The scores were-— College 43 and 78, Wakefield 86 and 34. with only three wickets down.
