In connection with the Avalanche disaster it is stated that had it not been for the kindness of the landlady of the Cove Inn the six bodies found would have been buried without a winding sheet or a particle of clothing. She purchased some clothing to wrap them np. -A. four-wheeled waggon removed thara in the pauper shells provided, to the graveyard, but there was no one there to follow tbe remains, nor eveo anyone to carry the coffins to their last resting place. At the request of the clergyman some quarrymen, in their working dresses, came forward and prevented the public scandal that would otherwise, as a newspaper correspondent tells ue, have occurred of the waggon bei»g drawn to tha grave and coffins being shot into it wholesale. The condition of the Pope's health has assumed a new aspect. He is suffering from very great prostration. The Russian armies are said to have lost 62,000 men by disease since entering Ttirkey. Their sanitary arrangements are described by all co-respon-dents to be as bad as possible. Mr Layard, military attach^ with Sulieman Pasha's army, died at Kesanlik, and was buried with military honors.
The crews of the British fleet in Besika Bay have been undergoing a course of military drill for defending ships against torpedoes. The Admiralty has ordered thirty torpedo boats from Messrs. Thornycroft's yard at Cres wich.
Several cf the Turkish commanders are taking striagenta measures to repress outrages by the Circassians and B_shi»Bazouks. The commander at Silistria has 500 of them > working in chains.
