Under this date a Heralds special says:— The Indian Viceroy's last telegram reports a further rainfall, and th;\t the prospects are more cheering. The famine relief tund amounts to half a million. Mr Gladstone is paying a series of private visits in Ireland, lie addressed the students at the Dublin University, and was warmly received. The Blackheath highwaymen have been sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. The Ponieraniau Bank at Stettia ha3 failed; liabilities twenty-six million marks. It has cr.used widespread disaster, and public ' worka have been stopped. There has beeu a Kaffir outbreak on the frontier. Two attacks were repulsed. Sulieman Pasha's main army has retreated to Rasgrad. The retreat is threatened by General Zimmerman's advance from Dobrudscha.
