General Church Work
I must now ask the Synod to appoint, for the year, a Lay Secretary — I say a Layman, because the Clergy have all to do that they can do and even more than they can do. We have no funds to pay anyone. Tho duties are not onerous, but my own time is already taken up. There are matters of business as to Trusts and Properties which are neglected because I have no time to attend to them, and therefore I must ask tho Synod to depute one of its number to act as Secretary to the Diocese. We have the benefit of a Lay Treasurer, which tends to keep our accounts (minute in detail though small in aggregate) clear from entanglement, but there are notices to be given, duties to be performed, committees to be convened, and searches as to deeds to be made, all which duties require one whose heart is in his work, and who will discharge it for the sake of the Church.
