— '-' - - '•-■■' ...L.m.AKlil.'l L' L_H!L!» A fancy dress ball recently given in Melbourne was a very brilliant affair. The guests numbered numbered nearly 1,400. Many of the dresses were elegant, and the scene was yery picturesque. So great was the desire to obtain invites, that at least 100 persons sent polite replies, accepting invitations which they had never received. Some 20 pe-aons were actually turned out tk ball-room, being there uninvited and unbidden.
