Political affairs still appear to be at sixes and sevens in Wellington. The new Ministry cannot persuade any of the Legislative Councillors to represent them in the Upper House, aud that branch of the Legislature declines to proceed with the business uutil one of their own number i 3 appointed a Minister. So for the time the doors of that Chamber are closed. The Financial Statement, which we were told was to be delivered last night but was not, may be expected at any tune, and is to be the signal for an attack ! upon the new Government by the combined | forces of the late Ministerialists and some of the Oppositionists. In the meantime the "slaughter of the innocents" has commenced in earnest, and is being ruthlessly carried on, as will be seen by our Parliamentary telegrams of to-day. A . N Ordination Service will be held at Uinst Church to-morrow morning at eleven o clock, when Mr G. A. White will be admitted to holy orders, and the Rey John Spear will be ordained a priest. The erection of the saltwater baths near the Commercial Wharf was commenced this morning, and if proceeded vigorously with ba.hers will ere long be able to gratify their iiatant propensities without fear of being molested by sharks. The site for the baths is an admirable one, the bottom being good, and plenty of water will be found there at almost any time of the tide. A special meeting of the Nelson Rowing Club will be held at the Bishop's schoolroom this evening at eight o'clock, when a full attendance is requested. Tub Diocesan Synod will be opeued at four o clock to-morrow afternoon by the Bishop of Nelson, at the Masonic Hall. The Harmonic Society's quarterly concert will be given to-morrow evening, "the first part consisting of the cantata Dido and iEueas, and the second of miscellaneous selections. The rehearsal will take place at the Provincial Hall this evening, when tickets can be obtained from the Secretary who will also be in attendance for thia purpose at the Society's room between four and live p.m. to-morrow. Members are reminded that the half-yearly subscriptions are nowdue. Indolent and luxurious habits, exhausting disease, inactive occupations, old age, aud other causes deprive the lining of the intestines of its vitality. Wheu this is the casa, the ! bowels become torpid. Slow digestion then ensues, accompanied by low spirits, loss of appetite and rest, fetid breath and dingy ' complexion. No such effects follow, however, when the debilitated stomach and bowels are vitalized with Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps.-— Advt.
