We understand that the pastor of the Weslej-an Church, who has beeu suffering from a throat complaint for some time past, is to be assisted for the nest few months by the Rev. W. Fee, of the Three Kings Theological Institution, Auckland, of which the Rev. T. Buddie, late of NWson, is tho Principal. Mr Fee was. a passenger by the Taupo last evening*.

The monthly inspection of the Volunteers took place last eveniuo*, the different companies falling iu at the Drill Shed. The usual preliminaries having been gone through a rigid examination was made of tha arms' and accoutrements, which were found to be in a clean condition. The men were then put through the bayonet exercise, after which they marched through the town, and back to the Drill Shed, where they were dismissed. During the march several tactical evolutions were gone through, in all of which the Volunteers deported themselves creditably. There was a large muster of all the companies, and the same is anticipated this evening at the Provincial Hall, for the purpose of presenting Captain Marshall with a testimonial prior to his leaving the district. The anniversary .of the Loyal Marine Lodge of Good Templars was celebrated by a tea meeting in the Fire Brigade Hall, at the Port, last evening. After tea a meeting was held, Bro. W. T. Bond, 8.D., in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Bro. Rev J. Beckenham, and Brothers Nutt and Aiken. Several songs, glees, and readings were given at intervals by members of the Order. During the evening Bro. J. M'Leau Drnn was presented with a handsome Grand Lodge regalia in recognition of the valuable services he has rendered to the Lodge during the past two years. The presentation was made by Miss Ada Freeman, who referred in flattering terms to the estimation in which Bro. Dunn is held by the members of the Lodge. The gift was suitably acknowledged by the recipient. The meeting was brought to a close with the National Anthem, shortly after ten o'clock

The Motueka Highway Board have decided to le iy a rate of ninepence in the pound upon all the rateable property within the district, such rate to be payable upon the twelfth day of November proximo. In accordance with the Act the rate book and certified copies of ; the same are open for inspection at various convenient places throughout the district, so that any ratepayer may ascertain without much trouble the amount of his liability.
