Kumara, Thursday. The case for the prosecution of 'Ryan concluded to-day. The evideuco was unimportant, except that of Dr. Atcheson, Greymouth, who proved the skeleton to be that of a man. The prisoner reserved his defence, aud was committed for trial at Hokitika iu March, 1878.
Wellinoton, Thursday. It is understood that up to this evening Mr Larnach has beeu unable to form a Ministry.
Mr Thomas reports :— -Flour, £17 10s to £18 10s; Adelaide do., £22 10s; oats, 3s lOd to 4s •; bran, Is ; wheat, 4s 4d ; hams, 9d ; bacon, 8d -, cheese, 8d ; potatoes, £2 10s to £2 15s; pollard, 7s 6d; maize, 4s 6d.
Friday. It is stated on good authority that after various attempts by Mr Larnach to form a Ministry, at a meeting held yesterdav afternoon it was finally carried by a. majority of 27 to 5 tbat Sir G. Grey should be entrusted with the leadership, and a further resolution was also carried that Sir G. Grey should in* form the Governor that he was prepared to form a Ministry ou condition that the Governor would grant a dissolution if Sir George could not command a majority in the House. Sir G. Grey will accordingly probably wait on the Governor to-day, aud inform the House of the result this erentog. Colonel Glover, the managing director of the Eastern Australian Coble Company, is on his way out to negotiate about a duplicate cable communication with Europe. Chkistchurcu, Thursday. Good milling wheat is ccarce, and in demand at 6s to 7s. Oats firmer iu consequence of improved Australian demand ; seed stocks low; feed quoted at 3s 6d. Barley dull, and demand nominal. Flour, £17 to £17 10s ; bran, scarce at £4 10s ; sharps, £5 10s; cheese, 6_d; hams and bacon, 9d: potatoes, £2. » « f
Dunedin, Friday. The share market is quiet. The principal quotations are as follows:— National Bank, £3 10s; Colonial Bauk, £2 6s ; National Insurance, £1 14s; Standard, £1 Is 6d; South British, £3 18s; Union Insurance, 14s 6d; New Zealand Shipping Company, £3 15s; Union Steamship Company, £7 ss. Flour is selling at £17; oatmeal, £!8; bran, £4 2s 6d (bags included); wheat, 7s to 7s 31; oats (feed), 3s to 3s 3d; milling, 3s 4d to 3s Gd; malting barley (medium), 3s 9d to 4s Butter and cheese are abundant. Both are quoted at I'd.
Auckland, Friday. A fire at midnight destroyed a house at Parnell, owned by Mr. Gisborne, M.H R., and occupied by Mr Wilson Binding. It warinsured for £200 in the London and Liverpool. The furniture was insured for .£IOO in the South British. Through there being no water available the fire burned itself out. The Supreme Court judge suspended H. S. Myers' certificate for two years; the Bank of New South Wales, representing one other creditor besides itself, was the only opposing creditor, the others having agreed to the discharge.
Moyle, late landlord of the Wharf diningrooms, attempted suicide by hanging. His daughter, twelve years old, cut him down and ran for assistance ; he was unsconscious but not seriously iu jured— he had been drinkiug heavily.
Mr Buckland reports store ewes and lambs Us to 17s a couple; beef, 35s per lOOlbs; fat sheep slightly lower.
Timauu, Friday. At a meeting of the Harbor Board, nine applications for engineer, were received. Mr Goodall, of Auckland, was appointed.

Wellington, Friday. A meeting of members of the Opposition, at which forty were present, was held yesterday afternoon to consider what steps to take for the formation of a Miuistry. Much discussion ensued, and ifc being- apparently the wish of the majority'that Sir G. Grey should be leader, the following members left the room:— Messrs Curtis, Sharp, Travers, Rollas ton, Brandon, Gisborne, W. Johuston. In the evening Messrs Sharp and Curtis, and it is reported Mr Rolleston, were interviewed by Sir G. Grey, but they absolutely declined to accept seats iu the Cabinet. Up to noon nothing definite is settled. Messrs Grey, Larnach, and Macaudrew are only supposed certain to have accepted.
