Mrßuckland reports fat cattle at lower values, 32s 6d per lOOlbs; ewes and lambs, 14s to 33s 6d per couple; fat sheep, steady at last week's values, 4d to -i^dperlb: lambs, Ss to 13s. A temporary roof has been erected on the asylum. Dr Skae visited it to-day. The male patients are to be removed back if reported favorably upon. Saturday. Arrived— Zealandia. The mail agent reports as follows: — Arrived at Honolulu from Auckland on August 14, left same afternoon and arrived at San Francisco on the morning of the 22nd. The mails were forwarded east by train the following morning. The longest run in one day was 304 miles, the shortest 250 miles. Left 'Frisco for Aucklaud September 12, and arrived at Honolulu Saptember 20, and Auckland October 6. Passengers for New Zealand— Mrs Buckley, Messrs Lee (2), Ward, James, Smith, and Rev. C. Fisher, and 27 in the steerage. For Sydney — 15 saloon and 36 steerage. The Hawea left for South with mails and passengers at 10.30 a.m. Napiek, Friday. At Lyndon's auction sale to-day, 200 Union Insurance shares sold at 9s, at 75 at Bs. A large number were withdrawn at 10s. Christchurch, Friday. The prospectus of the new Insurance Company has not yet been issued. The Times says the name is to be the Alliance. Mr William Saunders is chairman of the Provisional Directors. Grain and produce trade is quiet, good milling wheat scarce, sales made from 4s 6d to4s9d; oats, 3s 6d; barley, nominal; flour, £16 10s to 17 10s; bran, scarce at £4 10s; sharps, 5s 10d; potatoes, 50s; hams and bacou, 8d; brisk demand for cheese at 6£d; butter, 7d to Bd. Saturday. The decision of the bench of Bishops in the Rev. Carlyon's case, and penalty imposed under ifc by the Bishop of the Diocese, will be officially delivered by the latter next Wednesday. The Union Rowing Club imported three boats, by Salter, Oxford, in the Waitaugi, which arrived on Thursday. The sporting writer of the Lyttelton Times selects Danebury, Jaugler, Longlands, Telltale, and Redwood's selection from his own three as the best of acceptors for the Christchurch Jockey Club Handicap. Another writer considers Fallacy the best, then Perza, Jangler, and Telltale. The betting i3 unusually quiet. Dunedin, Friday. The Vincent County Council has reduced the salary of its Chairman from £400 to £250 per year. The Otago Guardian will be published for the last time to-morrow. Oajiarc, Saturday. For the second day's races the weather wa3 fine and there was a large attendance. The principal race was the Waitaki Jockey Club Handicap of 10!) sovs., 1£ miles. This resulted as follows : — Biue-a-wee, Bst, 1 ; Dauebury, 9st, and 7lbs penalty, 2; Unknown Bst 7lb, 3. Time, 4tnins 30secs. Champagne Stakes of 70sovs. 1 J- miles, Dauebury, lost 91bs, 1 < Mufti, Bst 91bs, 2 ; Xantippe, Bst 91bs, 3. Time, 2mins 6£secs. The other events were unimportant.
