PARLIAMENTARY.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, Tuesday. The House met at 2-30 this af ternooon. The Speaker read a letter from Mr Henry Russell forwarding to him 13 letters, about which so much debate had taken place, and which were quoted by Mr Ormond in the debate on the Hawkes Bay land transactions. Mr Russell said he had no objection to their being laid upon the table.— Mr Stout read a long statement from Mr Russell giving his version of the transaction referred to between Mr Cox, Sir George "rey, and himself. Ho moved that this and the letters be printed. Agreed to. Sir George Grey, as a matter of privilege, then moved for the production uncorrected proofs of the debate on the Hakes Bay land transactions, as the correct version in Hansard did not, he thought, correctly represent what was said. • Major Atkinson did not oppose this in the present instance, but thought it a very undesirable precedent. After nearly two hours discijssjon, an ameudmeut by Mr Harper to refer the proofs to the Reporting Debates Committee to repGrt regarding the alterations made, was accepted by Sir George Grey, and agreed to. The Public Works and Immigration Estimates were received by message from the Governor. Replying to questions, Ministers said — (1) The Government would give a return of tho cost of publishing the Waka Maori from December to July, and when and by whom paid. (2) Did not intend to introduce any General Road Board Bill this session. (3) Would give copies of all correspondence received regarding the Native Lauds Sales Suspension Bill. Tho District Railways Bill was tead the third time and pased after a short discussion.
