" /Egroto, dum animas est, spes est." DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), CONSULTS— On all affections of the Nervous System (no m vtter from what cause arising) ; on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged ia (t hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea should be the chances wo possess of remedying the ilia we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may — put on as good an exterior as he can— atill is the victim conscious that he ia a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith— our obligations to society at large— tho welfare of our iuture offspring— and the duty we owe to ourselves — forbids procrasti nation, and points out to us not to wait till tha ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful man makes inquiries as to their standing.; and, in the case of a iegal advisor, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits thesa necessary precautions. Aud without regard to the fitness, qualification, experiencs, and ability for the particular ailment requiring: treatment, he consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies iv quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that 80 many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, for years, pointed out to them that I, Dr. L. L. Smitk, am the only legally-qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies f Hare I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling— such aa Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c. — and had them analysed, and fouud them to oonaisb of <l Burnt sugar and flavoiiug matter," and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries. It ia for this reason that I etep out of the eihics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who has made this his especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has been ia Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Loas of Power and Debility Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism. Dr. L. L. SMITH can beconaulted by letter— Fee &I. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Da. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins st. East. .(Late the Residence of the Governor), MBI.BODENE. 2!q
