The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1877.

By our Parliamentary telegrams it will be seen that the debate on Mr Larnach's noconfideuce motion terminated last night, when the Government had a majority of nine, tha numbers, including pairs, being for the motion 38, against 47, all .the members but two having either voted or paired. The general wish, wo have no doubt, will be that all factious opposition should now cease, and that the business before the House, of which there is an overwhelming amount, should" be allowed to be proceeded with, but we fear that this is a vain hope, as it is stated on pretty good authority that tha tactics of the Opposition will be to perpetually harass aud annoy tha Government, with the view of driving them to resign. Whether or not this is correct events wilt shortly show. A sbrvice of sacred song, with appropriate readings, illustrative of the life of Moses, will be given by the Baptist Church choir iu the school-room to-morrow evening, commencing at half-past seven.

The annual meeting of the Nelson Rowing Club will be held in the Bishop's schoolroom to-morrow evening at half-past seven. At the monthly meeting of the Auxiliary Fire Brigade held last evening, it was decided that the annual dinner should take place during the first week in December, and that the members of the Brigade have a parade with their new appliances on the afternoon of the day on which the dinner is to be held.
