Wellington, Saturday. The Customs revenue collected at the Port of Wellington for the quarter ending to-day amount £44,889, as compared with £44,951 for the same period last year. The deaths this month were 19; birth, 23; marriages, 18. Oakes, a well-known contractor, has failed. His declared liabilities are £10,654; assets £315. Christchurch, Monday. A further test of the sand discovered at Kaipoi resented iv the production of a good sample o£ glass. One sample of sand is reported to be suitable for the manufacture of table and wiudow, and one for bottle grass. A company is about to be formed to work the sand. At the Stud Horse parade on Saturday there were 88 entires against 68 last year. The births in the City of Christchurch during the month of Soptember were 56 aud the deaths 20. Westport, Monday. The brigantine Sarah Pile when sailing in ou Saturday stranded on the bar. An attempt to get her off on Sunday failed, but when htr timber cargo is discharged she will most likely iioat. She is iusured, the hull in the South British for £1500, and the cargo in the Victoria for £300,
