THE SITUATION AT PLEVNA.
The following interesting special message is from the Melbourne Argu%- — London, Sept. 13. The bombardment of Plevna by the Russians was commenced at da\vu on the 7th inst. On that 3ay the Russian troops being everywhere in position, with storming parties ready for the assault, a heavy fire waa opened on the Turkish positions. On the extreme left of the Russian lines was the corps of General Skobeloff, with General Inivitisky'a csrps.iu the centre, and General Krudener'a troops on the right wing, while General Sotoffi with the Roumanian divisions forming a semi-circle, completed the investment. An artillery duel was carried ou through the whole of Eriday, and continued on Saturday (Bth inst.), but with little result. On Saturday night the Russians advanced a heavy battery near Plevna, and the bombardment never ceased. Ou Sunday a Turkish sortie against the Russian left wing wa3 repulsed with heavy loss, and Geneva! Skobeloff following up tha advantages he had gained on Monday, captured the southern heights commanding the town of Plevna and the whole fortified encampment, described as enormously strong. The Gravitza redoubt, in the centre position, was cannonaded for six days from the south and from the north-east.
