[press agency.] Dunedin, Thursday. 10-night s Star says :— " It was currently reported iu towu to night— and we have good reason for believing the report to be well fouuded— that the proprietors of the Guardian have completed the purchase of the Daily Times, and that in a short time the two journals will be amalgamated. Negotiations have been on loot some time, but were well kept secret." Great dissatisfaction prevails regarding the allotments of Union Insurance shares. Mr Bradshaw reports:— Hank of New Zealand shares, £22 os; Oolonial Bauk, £2 6s; National Insurance, £1 Us 6d ; Staudard lusurance, £1 2s; South British insurance, £4; New Zealand Insurance, £4 12s 6d; Union Insurance, 15s ; Shipping Co., £3 15s ; Union Shipping Co. £7 os; Alosgiel Woollen, £3 7s 6d* Friday. Mr Montague Pyins sold by auction five hundred shares iu the Uuiou Insurance Company from 10s 3d to lis 6d premuim. There was spirited competition. At a meeting held iu the museum last night a Microscopical Society was formed. Twenty members joined. Wellington Thursday. Mr Thomas reports— Adelaide flour, £22 10s to £23; Colonial do, £17 10s to £18 10s; oats, 3s lOd to 4s; bran, Is; wheat, 4s 4d; hams, 9d; bacon, 8d; cheese 7d; maize, 4s 6d ; pollard, 7s 6d; potatoes, £3. Dr. „emon has just received the following from Batavia, dated 27th .—"Unable to communicate with Singapore since yesterday afternoon, messages of 25th and 27th still on baud, mails leave Batavia 12th, 19th, and 26th October. Notice shall be given if any other postal opportunities occur in the meantime." Christchurch, Thursday. Good milling wheat scarce, aud iu demand at 7s, second quality ranges from 4s 6d to 6s; oats, 6d market firm; barley nominal; flour, £17 to £18, market firm; potatoes, 455, stocks low; cheese, 6£d; hams aud bacon, Bd, in good request. Kumara, Thursday. Ryan was brought up at the Police Court to-day charged with the murder of Daniels. He was remanded for a week. Bail was refused. Hokitika, Friday. Great dissatisfaction is expressed at the allotment of the Union shares. The allotment appears to have been made on no commercial basis. It will affect the future prospects of the company here. Thomas Ryan was brought before the magistrate charged with murder. He was remanded till Thursday. It is reported that the police have traced the watch of the murdered man to Ryan's possession. The case excites much interest.
