MAGISTRATES' COURT.

[Before H. C. Daniel and J. Sclanders, Esqs., J. J.P.] A Germanic Row. Mary Morley Antonie Schroder was charged with assaulting Ann Kruger, of Ranzau • Ann Kruger, Mrs Schroder's neighbor, and Sophia Springer, Mrs Kruger's dauphter, were charged with using provoking and insulting language to Mrs Schroder. This being a cheerful, all round sort of neighbors' quarrel, it was decided to hear the three cases to^ gather. Mr Fell appeared for Meadames Kruger and Springer, and Mr Bunny for Mrs Schroder Mr Fedor Selling acted as interpreter. In opening hia case, Mr Fell said that the whole thing was a trumpery affair but ihat it was one of those matters which could only be settled by bringing ifc into Court. As the evidence was of great length, and fully justified Mr Fell's estimate of its importance, it ia quite unnecessary to report it. The blow, which constituted the "assault," was admitted by the recipient to have been but a light one, and the "provoking language " consisted of the words " You are a thief," whereby Mrs Kruger and Mrs Springer intended to imply that Mrs Schroder had at one time been guilty of the larceny of a fowl. The result was that the assault casa was dismissed, and the whole of the three ladies were bound over to keep the peace for three months, themselves in £20 and three sureties of £10 each. Debt Cases. Hunter's Estate v. E. L. Shaw.— This was a judgment summons for £9. Defendant was ordered to pay the amount in three weeks, or to be imprisoned for three months. ' Mr Bunny appeared for the plaintiff. Hunter's Estate v. H. Collins.— Action to recover £5. Defendant sent a cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, Ashburton, for the amount, but on its being presented to the Bank here payment was refused, and the case;was proceeded with. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. Mr Bunny appeared for the plaintiff. Two cases against defaulting shareholders in the Culliford Gold-mining Company were not called on having been settled out of Court.
