CONTINUED FIGHTING AT PLEVNA. TURKISH SUCCESSES. COLONEL BAKER DISTINGUISHING HIMSELF. Bombay, Sept. 15. A Russian official despatch reports thafc the Turks oa the 12th recovered three positions lost on the Ilth. The Russian losses were enormous. The Russians have completely invested Plevna by lines of entrenchments. Suliemau Bey has silenced the Russian batteries, and vow holds Trajan Road. , The Russian army, after several sanguinary engagements, has wholly withdrawn to the west of Juntra. Ardahan is evacuated. Sept. 16. A Russian official despatch says thafc the Turks unsuccessfully attacked Grivitza. There was heavy cannonading on the 15th at Plevna. During tho late bombardment the Russian loss was 400 officers and 3000 men killed. The total killed and wounded was 12,000. The Roumanians lost 300 men. A Turkish official despatch dated the Ilth says thafc the Russians have evacuated Tirnova to reinforce Biela. Suliemau Bey reports on the 15th that a destructive cannonade on the Russiau position at Trojan still continue?. Mehemet Ali reports that on the 15th he defeated the Twelfth Russian Corps with great loss, and pursued them to Bauikalora. Colonel Baker, with the cavalry, is operating successfully. Sept. 19. A Turkish official despatch says that the Nicholas redoubt at Plevna was abandoned from motives of strategy, and that the Russian assault was repulsed with enormous loss. Rumours of an armistic aud mediation are semi-officially denied.
