Mary Ann Trueman, the wife of a shoemaker, and her daughter, Ellen Mudgeway, have just been arrested ou a charge of murdering the newly born child of one of her daughters. The crime was committed about three weeks ago. Kumara, Monday. Patrick Scully, a miner, was killed this morning in a claim north of, the Teremakau. Tuesday. A fall of earth occurred in the tunnel in Jones' claim at Dilman's. Two men were buried, but were extricated ih an hour and a half by relays of miners. One man named Irvine had his ancle badly contused, but was alivo. The other man, Jonathan Clements, was dead. Dunedin, Monday. P. J. Proudfoot was committed for trial this morning for alleged rape on Isabella Angus. He was admitted to bail, himself in £1000, and two sureties in £500 each. Auckland', Monday. Arrived— Ship Samuel Mendel, from London, 108 days out. She brings several saloon passengers. Lyttelton, Sept. 17. Sailed—Wanaka, for North, at 6-30 p.m. Passenger for Nelson— Mr J. Walker.
