crushing defeat of the turks at Plevna; (From the Evening Post, Sept. 13.) London, Tuesday Night. . Plevna has fallen. The Russians after an unequalled artillery engagement closed in upon the Turkish positious at Plevna, and totally defeated the force under Osman Pasha. The Turkish forces were totally routed. Thousands of Turks have been taken prisoners. This crushing defeat and the fall of Plevna will have a fearful effect upon the Turkish cause.

(Prom the Sydney Morning Hei aid's Special Correspondent.) London, Sept. 4. The battle which took place last Friday, 31st ultimo, at Predin Pelisat, began early in the morning. The Turks attacked the Russian position in great force. The Russian iutrenchments were thrice taken and recaptured. M'Mahon, who was an eye-witness, says that at four o'clock in the afternoon the Turka were everywhere retreating. The Russians admit that in recapturing their first position they lost 1060 men aud 30 officers. The Turkish losses were heavi.r. A sortie by eight battalions, from Rustchuck, on Friday, cost the Russians seven killed and thirty wounded. A sword, bearing a suitable inscription, has been presented to General Redetsky, on behalf of the Czar, for his successful defence of the Schipka Pass. The whole of the Roumanian army crossed the Danube on Saturday, a_,d fixed their headquarters at Parcix. Nicopolis is now garrisoned by Roumanian soldiers.
