As the weather was then fine, and has been so all day, it is probable that the steamer is now doing some good work, although from the violence of the wind yesterday there would be such a sea on as to interfere with the diving. The s.s. Murray arrived alongside the Albion Wharf at 10 o'clock this morning. She left Nelson on the 30th August, at 1.30 p.m., experienced light southerly winds with calm sea, arriving at Westport at 3.30 p.m. on the 31st; was detained there on account of the Greymouth bar not being workable nfitil the 9th inst., when she sailed at 1 1 p.m. •with S.W. wind aud rain, arriving at Greymouth at 11.30- a.m. oq the 10th; left again at 1.15 p.m. on the 11th for Westport, arriving there at 10.40 p.m. same day; sailed at 12p.m. on the 12th, experienced fresh S.W. wind and rain squalls to West Wanganui, from thence to Nelson light easterly winds, arriving here as above. She stopped afc the French Pass on the passage np for the purpose of shipping some cattle belonging to Mr Webber. There having been aome slight delay in getting them on board, the Lytteiton was unable to save the tide by half an hour at the Pass, and had to remain there until low water. By this time a strong S.W. wind had sprung up, and the steamer hammered up as far as the Wakapauka Bluff, where it increased to such violence that she was unable to make any headway, and it would ouly have been a waste, pf coal to try aud fight a passage against overwhelming odds. The Lytteiton turned tail and ran for shelter into Cable Bay, where she remained until the wind eased down, >vhen she came on to Nelson.
