The formal opening of the Dunedin Working Men's Club was celebrated last night by a banquet, at which Mr H. S. Chapman presided and 150 persons were present. The new buildings are fitted up with every convenience, and the club comprises 400 members.
New Plymouth, Friday. Mr Courtney reports that bidding at his cattle sale was spirited, and yearlings realised *•£•"■ 10s; eighteen months old, £3 10s to £-t 10s; three-years old, £4 10s to £5 Us Gd; four-years old, £6 10s to £7 7s 9d; store cows, £5 to £6; cows at calving, £8.
Wanganci, Monday. An empty house belonging to William Kells was burned down last night. It was insured in the New Zealand office for £400. The policy would have expired in a ".fortnight. It is believed to have been the 'work of au incendiary.
