The Charles Edward with a full cargo will sail for Hokitika direct to-night, the bar being reported as improving, and likely to be Workable as soon as the sea goes down. The Kennedy will leave Wellington tonight, arrive to-morrow, and sail for the West Coast on the arrival of the San Francisco mail. The Lyttelton arrived afc Wellington this morning on her second trip from Blenheim since leaving Nelson. She will sail for NelEon via Blenheim to-morrow. The Hawea leaves Wellington at midnight. She will sail for the North on Sunday. The New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Primera has completed her loading afc Wellington, and will sail for Londou at once. The cutter Goldseeker sailed for Havelock last evening with a general cargo. The Dauntless arrived from Torrent Bay this morning. She brings a cargo of stone for the harbor works. The Wanaka arrived afc Onehunga this morning, and will sail for the South on the arrival of the City of New York with the San Francisco mail. The Lady Barkly is expected from Motu- . eka ani Golden Bay this evening. The brigantine Esther is ready for sea, and will take her departure to-morrow. Her destination is Waitapu, where she will load "with timber for Lyttelton. The Result is advertised to leave Westport for the Karamea on the arrival of the Kennedy, which leaves Nelson on Sunday. Those tvho have parcels to send to the Karamea are requested to forward them to Westport "by the latter steamer. There has been no news from the wreck for the lasttwo days, consequently we are in the dark regarding the doings of the Waipara. In the face of the winds which have prevailed lately it is thought by those who have recently been afc the Sandspifc that the steamer would^nofc be able to do anything. Should tbis prove correct ifc is probable the Waipara Will return to port immediately. The schooner Australian Maid sailed for Awaroa last evening.' She will be absent from port about a fortnight, as ifc is the intention of her crew to cut the keel and timbers for a large vessel about to be constructed by her owners. j The schooner Herald sailed from Lyttelton for Nelson yesterday with a cargo of breadstuffs. Being a very smart vessel she ought not to be long in making the run up if she experiences anything like favorable winds. The Otago Times states, in explanation of the Wanaka's trip to the Bay of Islands, that that port is now included in the Company's route, chie&y as a coaling station. Of her line, the Wanaka was the pioneer boat in that direction, and shipped enough coal there to last her until she returned again. The other steamers will do fche same, and afc the same time aid most materially in developing a trade between the Bay and Auckland. The Taupo followed the Wanaka to the Bay, aud had quite a number of passengers. The penal hulk Sacramento, which has been in use in Port Philip for nearly twentyfive years, is likely to be dispensed with before long. This hulk was first at Geeloug, Where a gaug of prisoners were employed in making the Geelong railway, and was subsequently removed to Hobson's Bay, and about fifteen years ago was placed at the mouth of the Yarra, where a number of prisoners have been employed in constructing a breakwater. No more prisoners are to be sent to thehulk.
