HENaY JACKSON, Bootmaker, 1919 Hardy-atreet. "Is there no hope? ' the sick maa said ; The silent doctor shook hia head. ' ' While there U life there's hope," he cried.'j " Mgroto, dum animas est, spes ett." t DX. L. L. SMITH] (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), CONSULTS— I On all affections oi the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising) ; on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; on Rheumatism. IN theae Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repininga futile. The sole idea should be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may — put on as good au exterior as he can — still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or laler his vices will discover him to the world. Our faith— our obligations to society sC large— the welfare of our mture offspring— and the duty we owe to ourselves — forbids procraati nation, and points out to us not to wait till the ravagea break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a coufldentiai clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful man makes inquiries aa to their standing ; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both aa to his legal qualifications and as to bis capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, tho sufferer frequently omits thesa necessary precautions, anu without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the uearest mau, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that ao many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, lor years, pointed out to them that I, Dr. L. L. Smith, am the only legally-qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies f Have I not also proseouttsd, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling— such as Phosphodyue, Ksseace of Life, &c— and had them analysed, ami found tutm to oonsist of *• Burnt sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries. It is lor this reason that I step out oi the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of I knowing they can consult a legally qualified 1 man, aud one moreover who uas m*de ttiia his especial study. Dt L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has been ia Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Loss of Power aud Debility (Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism.
