Samoa advices state that the war is over, lhe victorious party, which now form the present Government, are those who side with Steiuberger. The chiefs of the defeated tribes took refuge iu the British Consulate, aud the victors demanded their surrender, guaranteeing that they should not be injured; but the consul refused, and called upon the captain of the schooner John Wesley to take despatches to the, Governor of Fiji, which he reluctantly complied with, being bound elsewhere on missionary work. At the skating rink Mr Petrie, a clerk in the Bank of JNew Zealand, broke his leg yesterday. Kumara, Friday. it. Al. Hogg, late agent in charge of the Bank of New South Wales, was examined before the Magistrate yesterday. The evidence showed that the prisoner confessed to the police that he alone had concocted the robbery. lie was thereupon committed to take his trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court. Blenheim, Friday. At a meeting of Catholics last night, four resolutions iu condemnation of the Education Bill were passed. 'lhe resolutions were similar to those passed at Wellington. They are to be aent to the local members, and to Bishop Redwood.
