; This monster will always have an interest for the curious Commander Hugo L. Pearson, of the Osborne, Royal yacht, which urrived at Portsmouth from the Mediterranean on tbe ljih Juue, has forwarded to the Ajdmitalty, through Admirul Sir George Elliot, the Commander-in-Chief, a report respecting a sea monster the yacht encountered during har homeward voyage. The report states that on tbe 2nd June, while the yacht was proceeding round tbe north coast of Sicily towards Cape Vito, the officer o n watch observed a long ridge of fins each about six feet long, moving slowly I alpug the sea being very calm at the ' uifio. He called ior a telescope, and was at once joined by other officers The Osborne was steaming westward at. a speed of about IOJ knots au hour and tue fins were progressing in an outwardly direction. As the yacht met the fius ihote ou board noticed the foremos. part of a gigantic se* monster. I.s akin was apparently devoid of scales, aud wus almost u& sleek as a _eal. The bead was bullet-shaped, witb an. elongated torminution, beiug somewhat like tbat oi a seal, and about six leet in di._u_ter. I, 8 features were ouly s.en by ou. officer, who described Vctiin us like those of un alligator. The nock appeared to be narrow and the body was somewhat like that of a turtle,

a fin about 15 feet long exiending from either aide. The appearance of the monster is accounted for by a submarine volcnno which occurred north of G-plita, n the Gulf of Sunice, about the middle jof lylay. „The spot in question ia about ;100 miles, distant froni where the pionjater is reported to have been seen.
