London, August 21. The Russians have abandoned the town of Shipka, which is now occupied by the army of Sulieman Pasha. The Porte is concentrating fifty thousand militia in Bulgaria as an army of reserve. Colonel Baker commands the cavalry. Bombay, Tuesday. An unofficial Russian despatch confirms the account of the attack by Melikoff on the 18th inst. After capturing the first line of entrenchments he fell back on his formesposition. Many were killed on both sides. The Russians have occupied a position between Lovatz and Selvi. General Gourka lost four thousand men in the retreat to the Schipka Pass. The Turks are preparing for a winter campaign.
