Auckland, Tuesday. William White Middle, an aged man, has been charged with an indecent assault upon a girl named Catherine Carr, twelve years old. He was remanded. The steamship Lionel was wrecked -while entering VVhauhape harbor, and five men were drowned. There was a heavy break on at the time in crossing the bar; the first breaker broached the vessel to, an 1 the second turned her over. All hands aboard wore drowned. Oue stuck to the wreck till after suuset, and strenuous efforts were being made by those on shore to save him, but tailed. A boat was manned from shore i three times, and upset each time. Five hands were on board at the tirre of the wreck. Tne schooner Queen Bee has been windbound for a fortnight through a continuous bai at the heads. Wellington, Wednesday. Ihe Hawea sailed for Nelson and North at noon. Passengers: Messrs Kenny, Troiove Brown, Wood, Scardon, P. Johnston, J. Schulze, C. Hurst, Captain Baillie, and Captain Kenny.
