The following requisition, to -which was" appended a large number of signatures, was , handed 'in to his Honor Judge Broad this ' morning shortly after the news arrived of i the safety of the Queen Bee's cutter :— ! " We, the undersigned citizens of Nelson, beg you to ask the Government to sanction the j proclamation of a public holiday on Monday next, August 13th instant, to commemorate the successful rescue of the passengers 'and crew of. the .unfortunate ship.' Queen Bee/ by the steamer ' Manawatu' and the cutter j 'Aurora,' manned , by the Naval Brigade." ! Mr Broad at once placed himself in commit. ! uication with Mr" Greenfield and the latter telegraphed to" the Government afc fellington asking that' Monday might be proclaimed i a. public holiday. The reply received was to the effect that it was a matter for the Mayor and Corporation and not for the Government ; "to-tieal with. The result is that a half holiday has-been proclaimed. x A public meeting is advertised to be held ; in the Drill Shed at 8 o'clock this evening, ; to arrange a programme for Monday's holiday. ' i Tiiß manager of the railway notifies that special trains will run on Monday at the 1 times specified in the handbills. ~- A gentleman whp is acquainled with D'Urville's. lsland, suggests that the Maoris who reside on this end of the Island should be iuvited to form a searcfr party for the i two missing men, as they are well acquainted , with every part of the couutry. . . I His Lordship the Bishop :of Nelson will hold a confirmation in" Christ Church tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock.
