[Per Wakatipu.] ! Sydney, July 28. A number of spurious bank notes are in circulation in Sydney. A proposal is before the Assembly to make the honorarium £300 per annum. Melbournb, July 28. A new loan will probably be proposed by the Government for defence aud railway purposes. Owing to the ill health of Sir Redmond Barry, he will not return to the colony until the full period of his leave expires. Spark has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. The Commissioners for the Paris Exhibition report that there is not time to hold a preliminary Exhibition, bufc they call attention to the desirability of holding an intercolonial Exhibition in Melbourne. Sales of wheat at 7s 5d to 7s sid ; flour is selling freely at £15 15s. Large sales of Devoe's oil have been made at 15s sd. Brisbane, July 29. I Amotion to repeal the duty ou hemp has been carried in the Legislative Assembly, j but a motion to reduce by one half the duty \ on leaf tobacco was withdrawn. '
