Yesterdat the ratepayers of Nelson decided thafc of the two candidates who offered their services as members of the City Council Mr J. K. Little was the one in whom they could repose the greatest amount of confidence, or, perhaps ifc would be more correct to say that Mr Little obtained fche majority of votes because he begged for them, and Mr Bethwaifce found himself in the minority as the result of not asking for support. There was no excitement displayed, and except by two or three no interest appeared to be taken in the proceedings, and only 235 went to the poll out of the 726 who are on the burgesses' roll. The numbeis were— Little 293, Befchwaite 238. Majority for Little 55. At eight o'clock the result was officially declared by Mr Greenfield, the Deputy Returning Officer, Mr Little briefly .returned thauks, and thus were the ranks of the City Council recruited by anew member. A aioST successful concert was given iv the Masonic Hall last night by Madame Moller, who, together with her daughter and a few local amateurs who rendered valuable assistance, kept her large aud appreciative audience in a thoroughly good humor for over two hours. The performance of Madame on the piauo was a treat to listen to, while her singing was equally pleasing and artistic. Mdlle. Moller's ballad was especially sweet and the young lady gave evidence of possesing a voice which promises to develop itself into a rich and musical soprauo. Of the other performers it is only necessary to say that as usual they met with a hearty reception on appearing on the stage, and with loud applause at the conclusion ot their songs. Taken ahogether the concert was of its kind one of the most enjoyable it has been our lot to be present at in Nelson.
