The schooner Nelson sailed for Havelock this afternoon under the command of Captain Robinson. We wish him success in his new vessel. A topsail schooner has been signalled all day. It is probably the Awaroa, which left Wanganui yesterday afternoon. There being an absence of wind she was unable to make the harbor, in time to.save fche afternoon's tide. The Taupo, affcer a long absence, returned to port this morning. She came into harbor flying light about ll o'clock, and sailed for Northern Ports afc 145 p.m. The Taupo has heen undergoing repairs at Dunedin, and is now in thorough working order. , The .Union Company's s.s. Fine weather was experienced to Taranaki, then strong S.E. winds with a lumpy sea, which caused the steamer to make a longer passage than usual. The Taranaki sailed for Southern Ports at 11 o'clock. H.M.S. Sappho hove up- anchor at 10 o'clock this morning, and took her departure for Wellington. She will go through the French Pass, aud will reach her destination to-morrow morning. While in port the officers made many acquaintances, who regretted that the stay of the vessel was so short. The men were an exceedingly well behaved lot, aiid gave proof thafc tbe modern Jack Tar has in no way deteriorated in quality. Commander • Digby was looked upon as a kind and hospitable gentleman, and knew how to appreciate the orderly conduct of his men. The officers aud men carry with them pleasing recollections of their visit to Nelson, and should they ever touch afc this port again they may be sure they will meet with a hearty welcome.
