The Charles Edward hauled off the cradle last evening, and saUed for West Coast ports this afternoon. After an enforced absence of several weeks the Wallace arrived from Greymouth this afternoon, apparently none the worse for her long rest on the hank of the Grey river-. The Hawea arrived at Wellington early' this morning. She left again at hoou, will arrive here to-morrbw morning, ahd sail for the North by the same tide. The Taranaki arrived at Onehunga this morning. The City ot Sydney, with the San Francisco, mail, ia due at Auckland to-day, but was not telegraphed up to the time of our going to. press. The Kennedy arrived at Wellington this morning, will leave to-morrow, and arrive on Sunday, sailing for West Coast ports with the San Francisco mail on the same day. The ketch Argus commenced discharging coal this morning. The cutters Maid of Italy and Planet sailed for Riwaka and Motueka respectively last evening. ' The Lady Barkly arrived from Motueka and Golden Bay last evening. She will make, a trip to Motueka and back to-morrow. The schooner Australian Maid sailed for Awaroa iast evening. The ketch Mermaid, after a long stay in harbor, sailed for the French Pass this morning. The schooner Richard and Mary has had quick despatch. The *" Richard and Mary sailed last evening for Waitapu, where she will load with timber for some Southern port. The schopner Reward is almost in seagoing order, and will probably get to sea in the beginning of next week. . The repairs effected to her have been considerable. The cabin has "been completely gutted, and thoroughly renovated. It now has the appearance of a very cosy place, and does not look half so barren as it did before. Lockers have been fitted round it, a new table, under •which is a- handy little cupboard, has been made, in addition to other improvements. The new companion which has been built is much stronger than the old one, being more securely fastened. The deok has been caulked in places where it was required, as also round • a portion of the coveting board. The cabin only awaits painting, when it will be ready for habitation. The repairs have been ejected by Mr T. R. H. Taylor, of the port, and appear to have given general satisfaction to the surveyors. The mail steamer City of San Francisco has been withdrawn by her owners frem the Califernian and New Zealand mail service. It will be remembered that some months ago she returned u 4irect to San Francisco from Sydney on arrival, instead of. remaining under the former arrangement, to take the next -month's outward mail, which was conveyed by the same steamer that brought the inward mail; -' The Pacific Matt Company found it too costly a proceeding to keep a spare boat _fc Sydney, 1 and aa the' abandonment of the New Zealand coastal * service;- materially reduced the; amount of •work to oe done- it was considered that "four boats would suffice to accomplish all that was needed; and this has proved to* be the case, the Australia, Zealandia, City of Sydney, and City of New York continuing to perform the service in excellent time. The City of San Francisco has been placed in the Panama trade.— -P-M*-.
