The Tararua will be due at the Bluff from Melbourrie-knd Hobarton to-morrow. The cutters Planet and Maid of Italy arrived from Motueka and Riwaka respectively this morning with cargoes of produce. The Richard and -Mary has fiuished discharging her cargo of breadstuffs, and commenced ballasting this morning. Tb£ Union Company's s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheehyyeame into harbor this morning at 7 o'clock. She, left Onehunga at 9 a.in. on Tuesdjiyy-andv arrived ott New Plymouth at ! 7*30 a.m. yesterday; landed cargo and pas- i sengei-a; and proceeded on ta Nelson under easy steam at JO ,15 a.m., arriving here early this morning. Fine weather was experienced to Taranaki, thence thick dirty weather until getting into the Straits, when the Hawea had a fresh^S. W, wind. She sailed for Picton and Wellington shortly after 10 o'clock, but will oriljr proceed as far as the latter port, /where she. will take up the Taupo's tunning, and leave the Empire City on the return trip to-morrow. The Union Company's s.s. Taranaki, Capt. Griffiths,, .c^ijielinto harbor last evening at 6*30. She leit Port Chalmers at 3*30 p.m. on Saturday, called at Akaroa, and arrived at Lytteiton at l*3o p.m. on Sunday; sailed at 7 p.m. on' Monday, and reached Wellington at noon on Wednesday; owing to having a large cargo to land was unable to leave until yesterday morning afc 2 o'clock, 'and fetched Picton at 7 a.m.; left at 9*30, and arrived here as above. After landing a few tons of cargo the Taranaki sailed for Northern Ports at ; 9-45 i>.m., and arrived at ! Taranaki at 1 p.m. to-day. For some time past rumors have been rife that alterations would be made in the running of the Union Compauy's boats, but until lately very little appears to have been known on the subject. The new arrangement, we believe, is as follows .—Two boats to ruu from Port Chalmers to Auckland, calling at j intermediate ports Von the way up, then return to Wellington, and: ttieuce proceed to the Manukau. The Wellington and the Taupo'are the two first that will take up the running, the, former of which leaves Wellingtoh' for East Coast ports on Wednesday next. /.The Wanaka has been taken off the East Coast trade, and will take up her running on the West Coast. She leaves Wellington for Picton and Nelson on Wednes day next. The ketch Argus, Captain Donovan, arrived .in harbor this morning, and was berthed alongside the Commercial Wharf. She is .from Greymouth, which port she left j on Saturday last, being towed across the bar j at 5 p.m. Light airs from S. to S.W. prevailed for the first 24 hours, and at 6 p.m. on Sunday the Argns was off Cape Foulwind light. '-The wind here died away, and it was not until next morning at 5 o'clock that the light was lost sight of, a light air in the meantime having sprung up, which latterly blew v*ery fresh. Ou Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock the vessel was abreast of the Spit light. 'The wind again died away, and the Argns made her way to port with light aira sud calms, which prevailed alternately. She has been engaged iv the West Coast trade since she left here in April last, having made two trips from Waitara to Greymouth with produce and fowls, the vessel being specially fitted up forwaird with coops, where there is room for about * 400. The Argus brings a cargo of coal.
