Although the Ringarooroa arrived at the Bluff early this morning we have received nq telegraphic information whatever, either of or by her. ||The Enquiry into the abandonment of the brig Star of the Mersey was resumed this afternoon, when Captain Conway's evidence was taken, and counsel afterwards addressed the Court. Owing to late telegrams coming in we are unable to give the report of the proceedings which, however, disclosed nothiug of any additional interest. The lease of 7 J acres of land at Wakefield, at present held by Mr J. P. Plank, will be sold at auction by Mr Mabin to-morrow. Dr. Carr gave another lecture last night at the Masonic Hall which was well filled. The Lady Barkly will make an excursion trip to Motueka to-morrow leaving here at 1 p.m., the occasion, we understand, being a tea meeting in connection with the Weslevan Church. The New Zealand Tablet of 22nd June says :— " We learn by means of a private telegram from Auckland that the Roman correspondent of the London Tablet, of April 20th, states that the Rev Dr Chereyre, Wellington Diocese, has been appointed Bishop of Auckland." Father Chareyre was ■ formerly assistant Priest of Nelson, and has latterly been Priest of Christchurch. He is now in Sydney, en route for Europe, but the news of his elevation to the Episcopate will probably cause him to return to New Zealand ut once. Mr Stafford is to address his constituents at limaru next week. The race for the rowing championship of the world between Rush and Trickett is to take place at Sydney next Saturday. The Melbourne Arm, of the 16th inst., says that Trickett is backed at 2 to l. •
