The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 1877.
His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by Captain Maling, Colonel Longley, R.E., aud Colonel Header, arrived from Wellington by the Hinemoa this morning, and proceeded at once to Mr J. Oldham's, at Suburban North, for the purpose of enjoying a day's quail shooting. A beautiful lunar rainbow, in which the colors, although pale, were clearly denned, was visible about one o'clock this morning. The brilliant meteor, which was seen here on the evetiiug of the 1 Ith inst., was, we find by our northern exchanges, observed at Auckland also. We have been shown a photograph of the first page of the hventuy Mail taken at the EDglish and Continental Atelier. Although it only occupies a space the size of a postage stamp every letter is legible with the aid of a magnifying glass. It seems that we arc to expect more bad weather. Captaiu Edwin, who usually proves a reliable prophet, issues the following warning:—" Watch barometer. Bad weather approaching. Any direction between north and west ar.d south-west, and further fall of glass." Dn. Carr will give one of his popular lectures afc Hichmond to-morrow evening. The third match between the Town and College Football Clubs will be played tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting. The following are the names of the players :— Col lege : Andrew, Askew, Cook, Firth, Harley, C. Hodgson, M'Kellar, A. M'Rae, J. M'Rae, Richmond, Rout, Roy, Stafford, Vickerman, Wither. Town— Ashcroft, Askew, Boulton, Baddeley, Curtis, Clouston, Hodgson, Jennings, Kempthorne, Stanley, Seaton, Thompson, Wells, Whitwell, Williams. A household specific. As a household specific for indigestion, biliousness, nausea, constipation, sick headache, urinary complaints, and the many ailments which affect the secretive and discharging organs, as an agreea ble appetizer, a promoter of sleep, a useful resuscitant, and a genial stomachic and carminative, no alcoholic cordial has ever yet been discovered which can compare in elhcacy with Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam knojtATic Schnapps. No family should be without it.— Advt. I
