- Auckland, Wednesday. The Football Club has modified Rule 57 , Rngby, as follows: — ''No hacking, no hacking over, tripping up, slinging/ "rabbiting, or butting, shall be allowed under any circumstances whatever." Napier, Wednesday. The Supreme Court to-^ay has been ocpied with a special jury case— Neale, Close, and Hunter (of Wellington) v. Keith. It is scarcely likely to close to-day. Mr Wilson (of Napier) and Mr Bell (of Wellington) are for the : plaintiffs; Mr Gordon Allan (of Wellington) and Mr Lee (of Napier) for the defendant. The other two actions—the Telegraph proprietors against the Herald — are withdrawn in consquence of what fell from the Judge last night, when he refused to certify for costs. He said the plaintiff would have been wise if he had not brought the action, that the words relied on did not, in the opinion of the Judge, apply to the plaintiff, and that he had suffered no damage. Wellington, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, the consideration of the proposal of the Government recommended by a cbmmittee of the Chamber to reclaim land arid bring the railway into connection with the present wharf, instead of building a distinct railway wharf, was adjourned on the motion of Mr Johnston, M.H.U. An amendment that the proposal was inadvisable had been previously rejected by a majority of ten to one. The question of legislation re bills of sale, so as to prevent the defrauding of creditors, was considered. It was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of Mr Johnston to bring before the House, and to communicate with the other Chambers of Commerce . throughout the colony on the subject. Thursday. On Tuesday evening the steamer Luna went out to look for the derelict brig Star of the Mersey, and found her off Alligator . Poiht, only a few miles from where she was supposed to have gone down. The vessel ' was riding with two anchors down. There was no one on board and she had evidently been left in a hurry, the sextant and chart, and oilskins and clothes, being left behind. The vessel was ia good condition and" well supplied with provisions, and there were only two feet of water in the hold. She- was pumped, the anchors raised, and towed into Wellington last night. Gbbtkooth, Thursday; A lot of wreckage, consisting of a large gangway board (not usually carried by coasters), a ship's after-hatch marked A 1, and a quantity of planking, have been found on the Seventeen-Mile Beach, north of Greymouth. A constable proceeds there as soon as the tide will suit to make enquiries. Dunedin, Wednesday. Mr Duncan, C.E., has just completed the survey of the Cliitha river from the Taupeka mouth to the bottom of inch Glut ha, and will submit his report to the Board of Conservators on the 30th when operations to open up the navigation of the river will be commenced. Hokitika, Thursday. The Albion was tendered last night. Her news is chiefly anticipated by the Rotorua.
