There is no visible damage either to the hull or machinery. The Hawea left Port Chalmers to-day for Northern Ports. The Maid of Italy arrived this morning from Riwaka with a general cargo. The Lady Barkly sailed for Motueka and Golden Bay this morning. The Albion leaves Melbourne for New Zealand to-day. The schooner Awaroa left Wanganui for Nelson on Tuesday evening, but as she was not in aigb.t up to the time of our going to press it may be inferred that s! e has met with bad weather somewhere. There were only two arrivals to-day, and the Lady Barkly was the only vessel which took her departure. Until the weather is more settled masters of vessels lying in harbor do not care about proceeding to sea.to fee buffeted about when they would be more anuglying at anchor in port. The brig Transport, wh'ch arrived at the outer anchorage yesterday afternoon, was towed into harbor by the Lady Barkly this morning, and berthed alongside the Commercial Wharf, where she will discharge her cargo of coal. She left Newcastle on May 23rd, with a, strong N.W. wind, which soon increased, ta ia gale, and then veered round totheS:W. This sort of weather, with high croas sea was experienced until noon of the 30th, when, a large amount of doldrum weather was met with, and continued until the llth lost. The day following D'Urville's, Island was sighted, since which time the Teasel has had *h ; ck dirty weather. No the exception of a schooner, were sighted during the passage. ■ The French ship Marie is advertised tosail* from Port Chalmers for Hong Kong'on June 25. She has been chartered by a number of Chinese merchants to load with fungus, &c, and if anyone wants a passage he will have to apply to either one of the L.erc*iants bearing the following eunhonious tomes:— Sew Hoy, Kwong Sing Wing, Wong Tape, or Kum G;oon Lee. _We clip the following from the Lyttelton 2V»e«:— " We have five large vessels sailing out of Lytteiton in the course of a single month with full cargoes of produce, for London. Nothing further, we presume, is needed to prove the growing importance of our export trade, and the rapid improvement which has been effected in the means of facilitating despatch to vessels visiting our port. Well may our neighbors in Dunedin feel jealous that our trade is increasing so rapidly whilst theirs is almost stationary.
