In the thick fog this morning the Lyttelton ran on the Boulder Bank at Haul-ashore Island, hut fortunately has sustained no damage. She haa been lightened, and will i be towed off at high water to-night. The cutter Dido made a start for Blenbem j this afternoon, but when the entrance fco the harbor was reached the wind suddenly shifted i to the S.W., and as the tide had then commenced to flow, she was unable to beat ont' against it, and, therefore, came to an anchor in the stream. Active operations in the painting line having,-; been going on on board of the p.s. Result; f6r the last two days, the consequence being a complete metamorphosis. The smoke-stack has not been neglected, and the White and black paint which has been put on give it a far better appearance thau the brown paint which was on ifc before. The rigging has-been set up, and on the whole the .Result looks spick and span. With fine weather the painting will be finished at the beginning of the week. The new engines andjboiler which have been placed in her are expected to increase the rate of speed by at lea^'three knots. The Result will be placed on her oid trade, namely running to the different .ports on the West Coast, such as Charleston, Pakihis, Ngakawhau, her headquarters being Westport. It is the intention of her owner, we believe, to make an occasional visit to the Karamea. t The cutter Margaret Scollay returned to port this morning from an oyster cruise, after an absence of two months. Captain Scoones has again been unfortunate, not vet having been successful in obtaining any oyst-rs; -i The -whole of the Pelorus andQueen Charlotte Sounds have been explored, as well as Port Underwood and Cloudy Bay, but with the aame ill-luck. The cutter then proceeded across to Wellington to obtain a fresh supply of meat, but in consequence of head winds was detained three weeks. The Sounds were again visited, and Captaiu Scoones determined to try the effect of a chawji of dynamite, as he believes there are plenty of oysters there, but are so tightly fastened to the rock that it ia impossible to get at them. Accordingly the fuse was lighted and let down to a depth of nine fathoms, bnt it failed to go off in consequence*, of having the wrong fuse. As the provisions were running short the Margaret Scollay came on to Nelson. She will sail again this this evening, as Captain Scoones is determined to give this side of the Straits a fair trial before quitting it.
