The Union Company's s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived at the outer anchorage at noon to-day. She left Onehunga at 3- 15 p.m'. on Wednesday, but on arrival at the Manukau Heads it was so dark that Captain Wheeler dic&lnoj deeni if; expedient to cross the bar, and the Hawea came to an anchor for the night. Early yesterday morning the anchor was hove up, and the steamer crossed the bar* safely, arriving at Taranaki at 7 p.m.; landed passengers and cargo, and after a detention ■of three hours sailed for Nelson, arrjvipg here as above. The passage down was characterised by fine weather. The H&wea entered the harbor at 4 p.m., and will sail fpr Southern Ports at 4 a.m to-morrow. Passengers are requested to be on board before 11. o'clock this evening. The p.s. Wallace, James Dillon commander,^ arrived in harbor at 2*30 p.m. to-day. Site left Nelson at 3-20 p.m. on the 2nd inst., and. arrived at Westport at 1-40 p.m. on the 3M;' discharged cargo, and left at 4-15 p.m. on the ,4th, arriving in the Grey roadstead at 2 a\ih; on the sth; blew the whistle several times to attract the signalman's attention, but, not succeeding, came to an anchor at 3'30/juid crossed the bar at 6*40; discharged cargo and coaled, leaving at 4*20 p.m. on the 6th,;and anchored off the Buller bar at midnigtitj steaming inside at' daylight yesterday; left at 4*30 p.m. same day, arriving here as above. Moderate S.E. winds ; with fine weather prevailed throughout the trip. The Wallace will sail for Westport and Greymouth at 9 a.m, on Sundav.

The ketch Emerald, Captain Whi tby, ar-rivedc-in harbor this morning from Lyttelton, afjfer a;' passagfe of five days, which at this time of -the -year may be- considered very good. The captain reports leading Lyttelton at 9 a.ni: on Sunday with a light wind from the S.W., that carried the vessel to Cape Campbell, which was passed on Tuesday at 8 a.m. The wind then increased to a six-knot breeze, and this brought the vessel through the Straits* Stephen's Island was passed at 10;p.m. same day, since which time the vessel has been knocking about.in Blind Bay,,there hot being enough wind to bring, her here until last evaning. Captain Whitby reports passing the schooner Awaroa at 4 p.m. on Wednesday off Greville Harbor. The Emerald brings a cargo of grain consigned to Mr J. R.Mabin.
