Wellington, Monday. Parliament is summoned to meet on Thursday, 19th July, for the despatch of business. At a meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of James O'Shea this afternoon, debts amounting to £7000 were proved. Captain George Thomas was appointed trustee, and will be paid 1\ per cent. Messrs Krull, M'lntyre, and Port were appointed supervisors to assist the trustee in winding up. The trustee stated that the estate was likely to realise 10s in the pound. , Auckland, Monday. The Gaol Inquiry Commissioners report the building suitable. It having transpired that the prisoners are occasionally allowed matches, the report points out the danger of fire. Owing to want of space, the prisoners are associated in the cells at night, and the report recommends the erection of new buildings. The Commissioners express approval of the task system and exertion money. Beturns by the governor attached to the report for the year ending March 31st, 1875 showed the total value of prison labor to be £8938; expenditure on salaries and contingencies, £5,362; surplus, £3576. David King, Huffh M'Kenzie, and Duncan M'Kenzie, charged with rape on a woman of 70, have been remanded. The missing barque Glimpse has been seen off Eaipara Heads. The Kate M'Gregor, which went ashore at Port Waikato, has been floated off, and i 3 now alongside the wharf for repairs. Cable news has been received in the colony of the floating of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand. The business will be similar to that of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company; capital, £2,000,000; bankers, National Bank. A number of shares have been reserved for the colony. On arriving at Christchurch he will be met by the Mayor and City Councillors, by whom he has been invited to luncheon. The Mayor requests the citizens to observe a general holiday in honor of his Excellency's visit. Serious complaints are made here against the dilatoriness and inefficiency of the money order department of the Post Office. Steps are being taken to establish a Coursing Club, and a large number of names have already been obtained. Poet Chalmers, Monday. Arrived: ship Hermione, from London, 103 days out. She brings 39 passengers, and 1800 tons of cargo. No ice was sighted, and no vessels were spoken during the passage. Gbahamstown, Tuesday. The Rev. J. Hill was presented with an illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns at a public meeting last night. Professor Fay was securely tied in the Cabinet, and it took him 35 minutes to free himself. When he came out his hands were covered with blood, the ropes also being smeared from a cut on the wrist caused by his struggles to get out. The cabinet manifestation is dispensed with. Professor Fay was greatly applauded for his pluck, The dark seance business was gone through as usual. The Waite Kauri monthly return was 1650 ounces. The mine is looking as well as ever. Grrtcsiouxh, Tuesday. A digger named Watson, working on the North Beach, iv the course of a drunken melee, bit off the nose of his mate, named Williams, aud then burned down the tent. Williams is in' great danger, having been previously beaten over the head with a billet of wood by the same party. Watson is committed for trial at the District Court. The Wealth of Nations Quartz Mine, yielded 4860z 12dwts of smelted gold for the month of May. A dividend is declared of three shillings per scrip. A trial has been made during the week of Joseph Kilgour's patent gold saving brush at the Golden Fleece Extended Company's Works. The trial was thoroughly satisfactory, the result being a saving of lOoz 12 dwts of amalgam per week. Timaku, Tuesday. The Tallow Factory at the Meat Preserving Company's Works, at Washdyke took fire last night through a spark from the engine. The Fire Brigade went out immediately, and quelled the fire by midnight. The Tallow Factory and engine-house were destroyed, but no damage was done to the main huilding.
