Mr O'Shea reports produce prices as follows .—Flour, colonial £18, Adelaide £24; oats, 3s to 3s 3d ; brau, lid to ls Id ; wheat, chick, 4s 6d ; hams, 10£ dto lid ; bacon, lOd ; cheese, 7d to 8d ; potatoes, £4 to £4 10s ; maize, 5s 6d, and scarce ; pollard, £7 10s to £8. Christchurch, Friday. The wheat market continues firm; 10,000 bushels of Timaru wheat were purchased at 6s (iv store at Timaru) for a local miller here. Oats firm and in demand at 2s 9d to 3s f.0.b.; barley dull at 3s 6d to 4s 6d; flour, £16 to £17; bran, 4s lOd; sharps, 5s 10d; cheese, 7d; potatoes, £3; butter, ls Id. Exports of breadstuffs to England are heavy. The Canterbury Jockey Club, at a meeting to-day, drew up the programme for the Spring Meeting. All the events are the same as last year, except that a steeplechase is substituted for the Tradesmen's Handicap, thus making two steeplechases during the meeting. The stakes for the Cup and C.J.H. are increased to 500 soys each. Saturday. _T At a meeting of the Jockey Club held last night it was resolved—" That this Club will in future only recognise the following New Zealand Clubs, nameiy, Dunedin, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, and Auckland, and will take no cognizance of any complaint or disqualification made by any other Club unless the complaint bas been first referred to, and confirmed by, the Club of the provincial district within which the Club complaining holds its meetings." Consolation Race— Elfin King l, Comet 2. The first heat resulted in a tie. In running off Elfin King won by two lengths. The inquest on Margaret M'lntyre was resumed to-day. Dr Bakewell stated that death had resulted— l. From long continued want of proper food. 2. Injuries received a few days before death. 3. Congestion of the Jungs and inflammation of the bowels. 4. To alcohol having been administered in large doses twenty-four hours before death. Had medipal assistance been called in in sufficient time' the life of the girl might have been saved. She sails to-morrow. Welmnoto-T, Saturday. The conclusion of the Auckland races and other news did not reach Wellington till nearly il o'clock last night owing to the wires being down. Handicap Steeplechase— Perfume 1, Butcher Boy 2, Mr M'Gee declared to win with Perfume. Connaught Ranger, and Don went away with a lead but refused the water jump, Butcher Boy took the hurdles at the second time of asking, but at the made fence his stirrup -irons gave way, and Stephens rode the remainder of the distance with one stirrup. Perfume won by three quarters of a mile. Autumn Handicap— Hinpocampus 1, Bide-a-wee 2, Ariel 3. A splendid race, won by half a length, time 3 mins 7 sees. Selling Race— lsaac Walton 1, Chance 2. Won easily by a length. At a meeting of the creditors of James O 'Shea held this morning Mr Schutz declared a guarantee of 7s 6d iv the X; 5s down, and 2s 6d secured by deed of conveyance of the property settled on the debtor's wife, to which the solcitors advised that no legal titie would be obtained. It was resolved by a large majority that Mr O'Shea file a declaration of bankruptcy. The Loan and Mercantile Agency report under "date London, May 23rd:— '-For wool there is a [moderate competition on French account, tbe home, trade purchasing sparingly. Seventy-dine thousand bales were sold today. The tallow market is quiet, and there is no speculative demand. Prices of beef are 425, and mutton 445. The wheat market is quiet. Adelaide is worth 69s per 4961b5; New Zealand, 665. The leather market is easier; best sides, 11 |d. The Tararua was unable from bad weather to land .the mails and passengers on the West Coast, and has passed on to Melbourne. ' • The Georgia Minstrels opened to a crowded house last night. The Insurance Companies bave promptly paid the claims of Mr Caselberg for lossea at the late fire at Masterton, amounting to about £8000. Caselberg estimates the loss at some £500 pver the insurance.
