HAIL! BRITANNIA.
The following lines are from the San Fraucisco News letter : — To English hearts at home we Englishmen Who dwell abroad these words of greeting send; Not aiming to be fine in speech at all, Or thinking that such words can bave much weight; But simply to give issue to the love We have, though exiled, for our native land. Here, when the passing of a century Is powerless to wipe an old feud outNay, breeds but scorn and bate, we daily see A sneer upon the lip at England's name— A sneer from those whose sires are of her blood, Ay, there are sons of hers whose recreant tongues Spit venom on the breasts that gave them suck. But let this pass. The time, it seems, has come Wheu deeds ouee more shall trumpet to the world The truth that England's glory has not waned. Then, brothers, fling the old flag to the breeze ! Not for the Crescent; no, nor for the Cross; But that the nations of the earth may find England has not fallen from her high estate. St. George ! St. George ! let the old battlecry Ring in the ears of those who dare her wrath. What she has done, that can she do again— Euchre the world wheu glory is at stake. The 80.-*phorus shall' yield her fealty yet, The waters of the Nile shall wash her feet The Northern Bear shall turn h>m to his den And growl his homage to the K ; ng of Beasts. Then may the God of Battles fight ber cause, And may her Crown g, 'n glory in the strife.
