Official communication has. been received at Berlin, from Russia, intimating that the Bay of Odessa is not safe for merchant shipping, owing to the torpedoes and mines wbich have been laid for the defence of the harbor. Pilot vessels have been stationed afc the entrance of tbe bay, and also afc the moutds of the Dnieper, afc Sebasfcopol, and at Kertch-Yenikale, to guide foreign vessels through those hindrances. Foreign vessels are cautioned against attempting fco enter any ef the harbors or rivers indicated without such guidance. A contributor to the G. R. Argus writes: — "Iv a Wellington paper the other day I saw the following advertisement :— • Wanted a young lady as milliner. Must he well acquainted with Wheeler and Wilson.' Who's 'Wheeler' that his acquaintance is a desirable re. ommendation fo. a milliner? Is he tl c genial captain of the Hawea, whose attentions to the ladies are proverbial? If so he will have to enlarge the already spacious ladies' cabin of the vessel, as to be acquainted with ' Wheeler' will become a trade necessity in the engagement of milliuers. As to ' Wilson,' we dori't know him unless it be the old Nabob of Cashmere, whose services in gi\ Ing way in marriage, and whose admiration of good-looking women are only surpassed by < *c courage he displayed at Moorsshr- chad during the mutiny. Did he not give Floren c CoMlle to Hoskins, and therefoie why should to be acquainted with * Wheeler ' and * Wilson ' not open out a great future to an enterprising young lady?"
