She left here on Wednesday morniGg, but in consequence of a strong S.W. wind was unable to round the Spit until Friday, arriving at Westport on Saturday. Hawea, Captain Wh .eler, came into harbor last evening at 8-30. She left Port Chalmers on Friday, Lyttelton on Saturday, arriving in Wellington on Sunday morning. She was detained by bad weather at the Empire City until yesterday morning at 6 o'clock, when she sailed for Picton, arriving there afc 1 1 a.m. ; left at noon, and arrived here as above. Experienced fine weather to Lyttelton, thence to Wellington thick dirty weather. When crossing the Straits yesterday morning the Hawea encountered a gale from the S.E., with tremendously heavy sea, which frequently broke oa board, but without doing any damage. Tbe steamer cut a nice caper in battling with the contending elements, and two or three times was almost on end, and several white toppers threatened to overwhelm her. The officers of the Hawea state tbat they have never experienced such heavy weather in the Straits for a long time, and aver thafc fche south-easter was composed of two gales lashed together. Notwithstanding this drawback the Hawea made good progress, and was not many hours in entering the quiet waters of the Sound. The passage from Picton to Nelson was, as usual, fine, the water being smooth. The Hawea sails for Northern ports this evening at 8 o'clock. The clipper ship Opawa, under the command of Captain M'Keivie, late second officer of the Hawea, sailed from Lyttelton for London on Sunday last with a valuable cargo ond ; a number of passengers. The vessel is in splendid trim, and we hope that Captain M'Kelvie will inaugurate his command by a rapid run home.
