. The Taranaki, which left here at i p.m. yesterday, only reached Pictou at 1 1 a.m. to-day, a proof that there must have been bad weather in the Straits. The Wallace sailed for Wanganui and Opunake this afternoon. The Ringarooma left Wellington early this morning with the Suez mail. She will arrive to-night, and is advertised to sail for Melbourne via South by the same tide. The Charles Edward left Westporfc this morning, will arrive to-morrow, and sail for West Coast ports on Sunday. The' Kennedy will leave Wellington for Nelson, to-night. The'Murray has not yet arrived at Westport/'not having been able to face the fierce gale. "Chat is blowing outside. For the same reason the Lyttelton has not yet put in an appearance. The. Wellington leaves Wellington this nfter,nopn, will arrive to-morrow morning, aiKt§ajl for the North in the evening. TJie Lady Barkly will sail for Golden Bay this evening at 8 o'clock. The Hinemoa sailed for Wellington yesterday; afternoon. As she is not yet telegrapKecT as having arrived there it may be presumed that she, along with the Tarauaki, took shelter last night. The Maori sailed for West Coast ports shortly, .after. .7 o'clock [this morning. She has^oh board a number of Celestials who came out to New Zealand in the barque Gloucester, which arrived at Port Chalmers some 'two months ago. The Chinameu are ] goiagto try their luck on the West Coast. Ths Ansdell finished taking in ballast in good^time yesterday, and was ready for sea in the evening, but there being no apparent change in the weather at that time her departure was postponed until this morning, whea^he was towed to the outer anchorage by th¥ Lady Barkly. She will remain there until this evening, when she will sail for Kaipara, where she loads with timber for Sydney. The weather took a turn for the better earj/jthis morning, when the N.W. wind that had prevailed for two days gave place to a strong, S.W. wind, which has been blowing all .day. A large number of coasting vessels which had been detained by the bad state of the weather quickly embraced the opportunifcyjafforded by the change to take their departure for their several destinations. They were to be seen beating out of the harbor this morning, which looked perfectly lively for a while.
